Overview of Director Mode App

The Director Mode app has been released on the Apple App Store, designed specifically for multicamera production. This app allows iPhone and iPad users to monitor and control select Canon and Sony cameras, streamlining workflows for filmmakers.

Key Features and Camera Compatibility

Developed by filmmaker Claudio Ripalti, the app supports Canon Cinema EOS, Canon EOS R, Sony Alpha, and Sony FX camera systems. It offers low-latency live views, camera settings adjustments, and recording controls within a single interface, catering to both smaller crews and solo operators.

Pro Version Capabilities

The Pro version of Director Mode allows users to monitor up to four simultaneous camera feeds. Operators can open individual camera controls and utilize the REC ALL function to start and stop recording across all connected cameras. Layout options for two, three, and four cameras keep each angle and recording status visible, enhancing production efficiency.

Connectivity Options

For Canon EOS R cameras, including the EOS R6 Mark III and EOS R5 Mark II, direct USB-C connectivity is available when using Director Mode Pro on compatible iOS devices. Basic connectivity for Sony cameras is also supported. Additional connection methods include Wi-Fi and LAN for Canon Cinema EOS models.

Advanced Monitoring Tools

The Pro version includes advanced monitoring tools such as a waveform monitor, focus peaking, custom LUTs, picture overlay, and anamorphic de-squeeze features. On supported Sony models, an app-based shutter angle mode allows for automatic adjustments of shutter speed in relation to recording frame rates.

User Interface and Functionality

The app provides a camera browser, vertical control console, multicamera view, and landscape monitor, offering various ways for operators to manage their setups from a single device. This flexibility is particularly beneficial for dynamic shooting environments.

Pricing and Availability

Director Mode Basic is available for free, while the Pro version is offered at a special launch price of $29.99 USD, granting lifetime access to all features. This pricing structure makes the app accessible for a wide range of users, from hobbyists to professionals.

Conclusion

The Director Mode app represents a significant tool for iPhone and iPad users engaged in multicamera productions, providing essential features for managing Canon and Sony cameras effectively. Users can now enhance their filming capabilities with a streamlined, user-friendly interface.
